الصفحة 241 - The content of total dissolved solids and 6D and 6O-18 values are given for 95 oil-field brines from the Illinois, Michigan, and Alberta basins and the Gulf Coast. The variation in deuterium content among basins is found to be much greater than that within each basin. Oxygen isotopic composition, on the other hand, shows a large range in each basin, strongly correlated with salinity. The relationships between isotopic and chemical compositions of the brines lead to the following conclusions...

Strong events are apparently reflected from the M discontinuity at critical distances and beyond, and it is necessary to supplement meager first arrivals with the reflections to arrive at a delineation of the upper mantle. The average velocity in the upper mantle is 8.4 ± 0.3...

الصفحة 242 - Sverdrup [1937] is used as a model to interpret the changes in isotopic composition that occur during the evaporation of sea water. The relative humidity at the site of evaporation is shown to be an important factor in determining the net isotopic enrichment, especially at very high salinities.
